Meet Our Team
Dr. Don Costlow
Dr. Don Costlow received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1985. He is a 1990 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During his studies in veterinary school, he was inducted into the Phi Zeta Organization for academic excellence. From May 1991 to June 1997, Dr. Costlow was the Chief Veterinarian at an animal emergency and critical care facility outside of Cleveland, Ohio. He appeared regularly on FOX Television’s “Good Day Cleveland”, where he presented various topics on pet healthcare. Dr. Costlow took over as President of Newton Veterinary Hospital in July of 1997 and founded the Animal Emergency Hospital of NJ in 2002. He was President of the NWNJVMS in 2004 and an active member of AVMA and AAHA. He is currently a member of Newton Rotary (Past President 2008-2009; member since 1997) and:

Dr. Terri Schneider
Dr. Terri Schneider grew up in Flanders, NJ and worked in several area vet hospitals while attending Mount Olive High School and during Undergraduate Studies at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA.
Dr. Schneider graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. She was published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine while a student in veterinary school.
After graduating veterinary school in Ohio, she returned to her home state and currently resides in Budd Lake, NJ. She has been practicing both Emergency and Preventative Medicine in Morris and Sussex County since 1995.
Dr. Schneider joined The Newton Veterinary Hospital Group in November 2007 and has spent the last 10 years practicing emergency and preventative medicine at the 24 Hour Newton Vet location.
She has special interests in Feline medicine, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel medicine, Soft tissue surgery and Ophthalmology. Dr. Schneider has also bred and shown CFA registered Himalayan and Persian cats.
When not at work, Dr. Schneider enjoys anything outdoors-notably nature walks with her dogs, fishing and gardening. When forced to be indoors, she enjoys reading, cooking and music. Dr. Schneider has two cats, PT and Quill (also known as her wrecking crew), and three Highly spoiled Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Rusty and Sprite who came from rescues with medical issues and Tucker, the newest and most energetic family member.
Dr. Kyle Horn
Education: Undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science) in Animal Science at Cornell University
Graduate degree (Veterinary Medicine): University of Pennsylvania
Resident: North Jersey my whole life
Vet Interests: Soft tissue surgery and Radiology
Other Interests: Outdoor activities, weight training, fishing and hunting
Dr. Caitlin Verhalen
Dr. Verhalen joined the Newton Veterinary team in February of 2018. She was born and raised in New Jersey most of her life. She received her BS in Biology and graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in January 2018 after completing her clinical year at Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine in Indiana. Her veterinary interests include preventative medicine and dermatology.
When she is not working or spending time with her own dogs, Dr. Verhalen enjoys being with her family and friends especially cooking at home with everyone. Dr. Verhalen takes any chance to get outdoors for hikes or long runs around her neighborhood.
Amy is Budd Lake Animal Hospital's Practice Manager and has been a team member since their grand opening in 2011. She has had the honor of leading the Budd Lake team in providing excellent medical care and superior customer service. Amy has the joy of being involved in every aspect of veterinary care for the Budd Lake community. She is constantly leading her team to go above and beyond with each patient, ensuring that they receive the best healthcare possible. You and your pet can rest assure that she has your pets best interest at heart. When Amy is pulled away from her work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, their three daughters, and hound mix, George. She also enjoys cooking, crafting, and painting.
Jessy is Budd Lake Animal Hospital’s Operation Manager and has been a team member since 2018. She oversees the hospital’s operations and is committed in making our patients and their family’s experience a positive one each and every time. Jessy loves interacting with all of our patients and loves sharing those experiences on our Facebook page. During her free time you will find her spending time with her husband and their two dogs, Levi and Creel, and their crazy cat Esther.
Jenn joined our team at Budd Lake Animal Hospital as a Client Service Representative. She graduated with a Bachelors in Political Science from Stockton University and is looking forward in furthering her education in law. When Jenn was growing up, she always had a full house of dogs which led her into this position where she has the pleasure of meeting new pets every day. When Jenn is not working she loves binging Netflix and spending time with her family, her four dogs Max, Brody, Toby, and Cooney, and girlfriend.
Dana joined our team at Budd Lake Animal Hospital as a Client Service Representative. She absolutely loves meeting and getting to know all of our clients and our patients. Dana has found her fur-ever career here and loves learning new things every day. When she is not working she enjoys spending time with her daughter and going shopping.
Karen joined our team at Budd Lake Animal Hospital as our Phone Representative. After having a very successful career of 40 years with the Government, she retired and jumped on the opportunity to work here. Karen has been a client of our hospital for 10 years, and feels honored to be a part of a team that helps to get and keep all of our patients happy and healthy! Karen’s love for animals is immeasurable! When Karen is not working, she loves gardening, spending time with her family, friends, and of course her fur babies, Max, Brody, Toby, Cooney, Jasmine, and Taffy.
Andrea joined our team at Budd Lake Animal Hospital as a Client Service Representative. She graduated from Centenary University in 2014 with a major in History and Political Science. She enjoys meeting and interacting with all of our patients. She is our trusted moral booster and lends a helping hand wherever she can. When Andrea is not working, she loves spending time with her husband, their two children, and their dog, Jordy. She also enjoys fitness and cooking.
Lindsay is Budd Lake Animal Hospital’s Senior Technician and enjoys providing all aspects of animal care. She absolutely loves getting to know each of our furry patients. Lindsay is one of our highly skilled technicians and loves assisting our doctors in surgery. You and your pet can rest assure that they are in caring hands with her! When Lindsay is not working she enjoys shopping, watching movies, and hanging with friends.
Alyssa is part of our Technician team at Budd Lake Animal Hospital and enjoys all aspects of anesthesia and surgery. Growing up on a farm, her love of animals started at a very young age. Alyssa loves the fast paced environment here and thrives to provide excellent pet care with every patient that comes through our door! When she is not working, you will find Alyssa farming, hunting, and going for runs with her English Springer Spaniel, Whiskey.
Robert joined our Technician team at Budd Lake Animal Hospital and is currently pursuing his degree in Finance and Business at Sussex County Community College. He loves meeting all the patients and clients who come in every day, making sure they have the very best experience with us. When Robert is not working, he loves spending time with his girlfriend; their three dogs, Griffon, Molly, and Sunny, training mixed martial arts, and studying electricity and forensics.
Phillip joined our Technician team at Budd Lake Animal Hospital and has quickly gained the knowledge to help educate our clients at every visit. He is currently working on obtaining his Associates in Science, to pursue his dream of becoming a licensed therapist. Phillip loves interacting and giving lots of love to all of our patients every day. When he is not working, he loves being with friends, going on hikes, and going to the gym.
