
Dr. Don Costlow
Dr. Don Costlow received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1985. He is a 1990 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During his studies in veterinary school, he was inducted into the Phi Zeta Organization for academic excellence. From May 1991 to June 1997, Dr. Costlow was the Chief Veterinarian at an animal emergency and critical care facility outside of Cleveland, Ohio. He appeared regularly on FOX Television’s “Good Day Cleveland”, where he presented various topics on pet healthcare. Dr. Costlow took over as President of Newton Veterinary Hospital in July of 1997 and founded the Animal Emergency Hospital of NJ in 2002. He was President of the NWNJVMS in 2004 and an active member of AVMA and AAHA. He is currently a member of Newton Rotary (Past President 2008-2009; member since 1997) and:

Dr. Stephanie Welch
Dr. Stephanie Welch-Pempkowski, also known as Dr. Welch, is a compassionate and dedicated veterinarian with a strong interest in dermatology, preventative care, wellness, internal medicine, nutrition, and ultrasound among other areas. Dr. Welch has made significant contributions to the well-being of animals and the local community. As a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), she stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine, ensuring the highest quality of care for her patients. She believes in providing comprehensive care that not only addresses physical health but also enhances the connection between pets and their owners. Her educational journey began at Arcadia University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Conservation (Wildlife) in 2008. She then pursued her veterinary education at St. Georges University and Auburn University, graduating in 2016. Dr. Welch grew up in Lebanon Township, NJ, and her motivation to become a veterinarian can be traced back to her involvement in raising seeing-eye puppies for 4-H. Before embarking on her veterinary career, she gained valuable experience by volunteering at zoos and nature centers and working at animal hospitals locally.Outside of work, Dr. Welch spends most of her free time with her family and loved ones, especially her husband, Matthew, and their two young sons. Their furry family member includes Zoey, a lovable Great Pyrenees. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Welch finds joy in spending time outdoors, traveling, cooking, and chasing after her boys. With her expertise, compassion, and commitment to exceptional veterinary care, Dr. Stephanie Welch-Pempkowski (Dr. Welch) continues to make a positive impact on the lives of animals and their owners, ensuring their well-being and fostering the Human-Animal bond.

Jessy D.
Jessy has been a vital part of the Budd Lake Animal Hospital team since 2018. She began her career at the hospital in reception, quickly rising through the ranks to become Operations Manager and, most recently, Practice Manager in 2023. Her journey into veterinary care followed over a decade of work in early childhood education, during which she earned a degree in psychology from William Paterson University.Though she enjoyed working with children, Jessy always dreamed of a career in animal care. When the opportunity arose, she made the leap—and hasn’t looked back. She loves interacting with clients and their pets and finds great fulfillment in supporting her team and helping the hospital thrive.Outside of work, Jessy is a proud plant enthusiast, avid gardener, and diamond art hobbyist. She is also a passionate animal advocate—having helped rescue dogs from a now-closed puppy mill, including her beloved beagle, Violet, one of 117 dogs saved. At home, she enjoys spending time with Violet and her three cats—Timmy, Nancy, and Esther—along with family, friends, and the great outdoors.

Anna F.
Anna joined our team at Budd Lake Animal Hospital as a Client Service Representative. She absolutely loves meeting all our clients and patients while gaining new knowledge of veterinary medicine every day. Anna is currently attending North Hampton County Community College to obtain her veterinary technician degree. When she is not working, she enjoys playing with her dog Molly, baking, and painting.

Jessi
Jessi is a CSR who joined the Budd Lake Animal Hospital team in April of 2022. She grew up with animals her whole life and always enjoyed taking care of them and providing them with the love they deserve. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with family, friends and of course her own furry pets!

Ryan
Ryan is passionate about art, travel, and animal welfare. He enjoys spending quality time with his husband and their three dogs—Luca, Preen, and Joey. Whether exploring new destinations or supporting causes that help animals, Ryan brings heart and creativity to everything he does.

Mia
Mia is a dedicated veterinary professional with over five years of experience in the vet med field, specializing in emergency and critical care. A true cat person at heart, she adores spending time with her beloved feline companion, Pickles. When she's not caring for animals at work, Mia enjoys hitting the gym and relaxing with her boyfriend. Her favorite part of the job is being surrounded by animals every day, it's what fuels her passion and keeps her smiling
